Pick up needles that don’t match your gauge and the whole sock comes out a different size than the pattern promised. None of this is difficult once you know the numbers — but working them out by hand, every time, for every project, is where a lot of knitters either give up or just guess.

SockKnit exists to take that arithmetic off your plate. Instead of long essays you have to wade through, the site is built around a set of small, single-purpose calculators, each aimed at one part of the process. The Gauge & Stitch Calculator turns a swatch into stitches and rows per inch and scales that up to any width or length, and tells you how far a gauge sits from what a pattern calls for. The Sock Yarn Yardage Estimator works from your foot circumference, leg and foot length, and gauge to an approximate yardage, with a buffer for swatching and finishing built in. The Needle Size Guide & Converter moves between US needle sizes and millimetres and shows the conventional needle range for a given yarn weight. The Sock Size to Stitch Count Calculator turns a foot measurement and your gauge into a cast-on count with standard negative ease already applied, so the fabric actually grips. The Cast-On Count Calculatordoes the same job for any circular project — a hat, a mitten cuff, a cowl, a sweater body — with an ease default suited to the garment and rounding to whatever stitch-pattern repeat you’re using. And the Row Counter tracks a row count against a pattern repeat and a target total, so you always know where you are in the repeat and how many rows are left.

Every number the tools produce — a stitch count, a yardage estimate, a needle size, a cast-on total — is a general estimate built on the measurements and gauge you enter, not a guarantee that a specific pattern or yarn will behave identically; swatching and a bit of judgment still matter.
